둘 사람 모두 Chemistry Department. Dr. Murphy는 원래 Univ. of South Carolina에 재직하고 있었는데, 2009년 가을학기부터 UIUC로 옮기기로 했단다.
El-Sayed 그룹은 원래 laser 관련된 연구를 하던 그룹이라, Au NRs 관련한 optical property를 많이 연구했고, Murphy 그룹은 주로 Au NRs의 다양한 합성 및 응용에 관한 많은 연구를 하고 있다.
El-Sayed랑 Murphy 두 사람다 여기에 와서 세미나를 했었는데, Murphy의 경우엔 학교를 옮기기 위해서 일종의 faculty candidate presentation이었다고 한다. 결국 UIUC로 옮기지만...
여튼 ACS website에서 제목으로 AU NRs 검색했을 때, 관련된 논문이 150여개 밖에 되지 않는다. Web of Science에서 같은 방법으로 검색하면, 360개 정도 나오고, 첫 논문이 1997년에 나온걸로 되어있다. Au NRs의 경우엔, 사이즈가 tunable하고, NIR에서 강한 extinction을 나타내기 때문에, biomedical application쪽으로 많이 주목받고 있다.
